Our History

The Drug Abuse Alternatives Center (DAAC) in Santa Rosa, California has a rich history spanning over five decades. The organization was founded in 1969 by a group of dedicated individuals who recognized the urgent need for comprehensive substance abuse treatment in Sonoma County and the surrounding areas. At the time of its establishment, drug abuse was a growing concern, and there was a lack of accessible resources for those seeking help. The founders of DAAC were determined to address this gap and create a supportive environment where individuals struggling with addiction could find the assistance they desperately needed.

With a shared vision of providing effective and compassionate treatment, the founders worked tirelessly to lay the foundation of what would become one of the leading substance abuse treatment programs in the region. They collaborated with local stakeholders, community members, and professionals in the field to develop a comprehensive approach to addiction recovery.

Over the years, DAAC expanded its services and programs to meet the evolving needs of the community. Through partnerships with healthcare providers, government agencies, and community organizations, DAAC established itself as a vital resource for individuals seeking recovery. In 2012, changes in funding jeopardized DAAC's mission. Center Point Inc., led by Dr. Sushma Taylor, stepped in to provide financial assistance, assisted DAAC in purchasing its building, and support the organization's leadership. Since then, DAAC has been known as Center Point DAAC and is a part of the Center Point family of programs.

Through its commitment to evidence-based practices, Center Point DAAC has consistently adapted to the changing landscape of addiction treatment. The organization has embraced advancements in clinical research, therapeutic modalities, and integrated care approaches to provide the most effective and holistic treatment options.

As a result of its dedication to excellence and a client-centered approach, Center Point DAAC has helped thousands of individuals and families reclaim their lives from the grip of addiction. Its compassionate and experienced staff, including licensed therapists, counselors, and medical professionals, work together to provide a continuum of care that addresses the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction.

Center Point DAAC's impact extends beyond the walls of its treatment facilities. The organization actively engages constituents in Sonoma and the surrounding counties through various outreach initiatives, educational programs, and partnerships. By collaborating with local organizations and individuals, Center Point DAAC aims to reduce the stigma associated with addiction, raise awareness about the importance of treatment, and promote prevention efforts.

Today, Center Point DAAC continues to be a pillar of hope, healing, and recovery for the resident of Sonoma County and beyond. It remains steadfast in its commitment to helping individuals overcome drug abuse and addiction, empowering them to build healthier, more fulfilling lives.
